The Goodwood Festival of Speed: Cars of All Kinds, Thrills and HPI Racing!

Mon, 10th July 2017

Goodwood! The name alone, at least in the south of England, conjures up weekends of horse racing, posh spa retreats and dapper gentlemen escorting ladies carrying parasols.

Until the weekend of the Festival of Speed, that is!

That is when international motorsport comes to the Goodwood estate, and the grounds are assaulted by vehicles of all types and descriptions, from steam-powered racers over 100 years old to the latest Le Mans-winning endurance hybrid machines - and everything in between!

On the surface, the Festival of Speed is a hill climb up the 1.1 mile driveway leading past the classically designed Goodwood manor house, which has been the seat of the Earl of March for generations. Hill climbs are a serious weekend hobby for racers across Britain and Europe - but the Festival of Speed has turned into a huge motorsports showcase and auto show for automakers and fans from around the world!

Naturally, where motorsport is, HPI Racing must be there! We hit the glorious Festival of Speed with drift legend Vaughn Gittin Jr, owner of the Ford performance tuning house RTR (which made this amazing one-of-a-kind 1969 Ford Mustang RTR-X supercar), to show off his newest pride and joy, his signature Fun-Haver Edition of the awesome Savage XS Flux mini-monster truck!

Just check out how much fun Vaughn has with his truck! See for yourself how amazing it is!

Vaughn had a blast driving his signature machine around the Festival grounds

After hitting the massive dirt bike jumps used by professional freestyle motocross riders, Vaughn couldn't believe how much fun the Fun-Haver Savage XS Flux was to drive! Tough, fun and impossible to put down: that's the Savage XS Flux!

Take a Tour of the Festival

Of course, the Festival of Speed is not all monster trucks and huge jumps - for the race car or motorsport fan, the Festival is the ultimate showground.

Even the parking area is packed with supercars!

You can walk right up to famous race cars, trucks and motorcycles, talk to the mechanics and drivers, watch them work on the vehicles, touch the cars and get up close and personal!

Car manufacturers also treat the Festival of Speed as a major auto show, debuting their latest models to eager public and members of the press - so it's literally your first chance to see some of the newest cars on the planet!

Car manufacturers from Ford to Ferrari and Honda to Lamborghini are on hand to display their latest cars, give away great swag and entice you with fabulous displays, food and merchandise - and if you can get to the Festival on Thursday, you could even drive up the famous hill climb yourself!

It's not just on-road cars, either! At the highest point of the Goodwood estate, right next to the world-famous horse racing track, is the tight and technical Goodwood Rally Stage, designed by rally legend Hannu Mikkola and cut into the forest at the top of the hill.

Here, you can walk amongst the sun-dappled trees and see classics of the rally racing world from all eras on the slippery, tricky chalk surface.

Plenty of Ultra 4 race buggies are present to take on the Dakar-inspired off-road trial course

The actual Le Mans-winning Porsche 919 Hybrid from the 2017 24hrs of Le Mans - complete with road dirt and grime!

At the top of the hillclimb, you can get close-up views of the cars in motion...

...see legendary motorcycle machinery...

...and even meet heroes of motorsport from Formula 1, motorcycle, sports car and rally racing!

Of course, there's plenty of retailers to buy all kinds of motorsport- and car-related goodies from while you gaze in awe at some of the most exclusive and hard-to-find cars ever made.

A completely unrestored Rolls-Royce from the 1930s, sitting among other cars from the same era worth millions!

The stunning car sculpture in front of Goodwood House changes every year - this year the theme was 'the five eras of Bernie Ecclestone', the man who until recently ran Formula 1 for decades

If you ever have the opportunity to travel to the south of England in June or July, you owe it to yourself to get tickets to the Goodwood Festival of Speed!

In the meantime, check out the new Vaughn Gittin Jr Fun-Haver Edition of the awesome Savage XS Flux mini-monster truck!
