Round 3 Of the ETS series was this time held on the Spanish island of Gran Canaria. Everyone was looking forward to some warm weather and the first meeting on asphalt for this ETS season. Practice went well and without any major changes to my TCX-X's setup I was on the pace.
Saturday was qualifying day and we were greeted with slightly cooler temperatures than on Friday. Q1 – I started 8th and had a slow start whilst feeling out the traction. I was clearly down on traction from the practice day, which I think was down to the cooler temps, but I had a clean run finishing 6th in the round. Q2 – I changed top deck for a little more flex and thinned out the diff oil for the cooler conditions. Car was better this run and had more steering. Drove a clean run and finished 2nd behind Alex Hagberg. Q3 – For Q3 I changed nothing, I still ran old tyres and focused on another clean run. Rheinard, Wilck and Harper all on new tyres. Rheinard tq Elliot 2nd me 3rd so I was fastest of the old tyre runners. Stef Chodzynski with his TCX 6th in this round! Q4 – For round 4 many drivers used up their 2nd set of new tyres to ensure a good starting spot for the main. I chose to run old tyres again and save my fresh set for q5. But considering I was on old rubber the car felt really good with plenty of steering. Q5 – I ran fresh tyres for this round but despite setting the fastest lap of the meeting on lap 2 I had a weird spin at the end of the main straight on lap 3 and as I wasn't going to improve on a 3rd place in round I decided to stop and save the tyres for the mains. 1st A Main – Almost everyone was on fresh tyres for the 1st main, I started ok but again had a strange spin at the end of the straight, falling back a couple of spots I was finally able to catch back up to 5th. 2nd A Main- I had fresh again which were left over from q5. I was able to pass Rheinard off the start into the first corner, I then caught and passed Hagberg. I spent the next minute trying to catch the leader Christopher Krapp, with 3 laps to go I was right with him and I made a move up the inside in front of the drivers stand, unfortunately we touched doors and I got a little loose out of the corner and got collected by everyone, so from 1st to 5th in one corner ! 3rd A Main – With only having two 5th places the best I could finish would be 4th overall if I got the win in the 3rd final. I got by Rheinard again on the first lap but Hagberg drove a clean run out front and I had to settle for 2nd and a 5th place overall. Despite only getting 5th I was really happy with the new parts we have coming for the TCX-X and with the Worlds coming up quick its all looking good for team HB!!
