D1RC Drift Series National Championship 2012 Round 4, Snetterton Park Author: John Turner, D1RC Photographs: John Turner, Brad Giles & Steve Gravett, D1RC For the first time in D1RC history we had to reschedule a round due to the weather, but when we arrived at Snetterton Park a week later the sun was out to greet us. It had been a while since we'd competed at Snetterton, just over a year due to a major overhaul having closed the track during 2011 but the circuit was how we remembered it, big, fast and challenging! In the Club class qualifying it was newcomer David Shaw-Matthews who led the way with his Hot Bodies TC-FD drift chassis setting the bar at 95, 89pts, closely chased by Andy Brunton on 95, 86 and Lithuanian holiday visitor Antanas Pluuska on 90pts In Pro Class it was the turn of Steve Gravett to take top slot with a 98 over Rick Lincoln-Smith on 94 and Simon Landgrebe on 90pts. Simon was also using a TC-FD but with the new HPI Flux Pro Competition ESC fitted (#101830), a fully programmable ESC that's gets your motor screaming with the best of them! During the lunch break we held the Best Shell competition which was won by Rob Jones with his very nicely turned out HPI Prova Scooby shell = nice paint job Rob! With the sun still shinning the Club Finals got under way with some very close battles form all the drivers but it was David Shaw-Matthews, Brad Giles, Andy Brunton and Rob Jones who made it through to the semi finals. Brad beat Rob 10/0, 10/0 to take 3rd place and in the final it was Andy who battled through with a 10/0, 6/4 win over David. It was no less close in the Pro Finals which saw Steve Gravett, John Turner, Rick Lincoln-Smith and Simon Landgrebe make the semis. Rick took 3rd slot which left Team HPI drivers Simon Langrebe and John Turner to battle for the honours, an all HPI Pro final! It was close! On the second run it was a 5/5 draw but the final was decided on the first run when JT, in chase position, almost (maybe did?) kiss the rear of Simons car entering the final corner, backed off for a nano-second to avoid an impact and then watched Simon draw away over the line, a 6/4 win to Simon – well done mate! With the trophies and prizes handed out to all the podium places in both classes, discussion started on the next D1RC event, the 2012 D1RC Drift Olympics at Eastbourne ECC on 10-12th August, a long, fun weekend of drifting chaos! If you want to come along, just visit the D1RC.co.uk website for details. See you there?
