Which Compound is best for you?

Don't forget tire inserts!
Most of our best racing tires do not come with tire inserts in the package. You need tire inserts so the tires do not lose their shape as the wheel rotates and the car is subjected to cornering forces. Check out the huge selection of HPI tire inserts here!

Belted or Non-Belted?

HPI developed our belted tires to help prevent the tire from expanding during acceleration. A strip of nylon belt on the inside makes them very similar to full-size racing tires. Another benefit is that the contact patch doesn't squirm as much during cornering. The result of the belted technology is more grip and much longer tire life.

Belted tires are perfect for Nitro racers, the belts keep the tires from expanding (or "ballooning") under the rotational forces while racing.

HPI Tire Warmers

There are still plenty of racers who are running in cold weather, and if you're one of them, or you run at night or early in the morning, you need to try our new HPI Tire Warmers! They plug into any 7.2v battery pack using standard Tamiya connectors, and can run off one pack each or one pack for both. Our Tire Warmers will heat up your tires (just like real race cars) to the perfect running temperature so you're stuck from the sound of the tone! 

New! Advan A038 24mm Belted Tires
In partnership with the Yokohama Tire, HPI has received the license to produce a scale reproduction of the hot new Yokohama racing tire, the Advan A038! This awesome semi-slick tire will look absolutely perfect on your 1/10 scale racer, and its unique look isn't just for show - this tire will really work great! Perfect for dusty tracks and just about any prepared surface, this treaded tire is the first 24mm treaded tire available from HPI. 

The fabric belt inside the tire is made of the same fabric as the other famous HPI "R" series tires, and helps prevent "grooving" while extending the useful life of the tire. That's right, you'll get more runs per set than other "long-wear" compounds from other manufacturers! 

The Advan A038 24mm belted tire features the Yokohama "Flying Y" logo and the Advan A038 designation on the sidewall. Talk about scale coolness! Get yourself a set soon!

Racing Slick 24mm Tires
Our latest racing tires are available only in the 24mm "mid-width" size, which provides more traction than 22mm tires and less rotating weight than 26mm tires. Since this tire was designed for serious racing, we added a new type of fabric belt inside the tire for even tire wear. No more 'grooving' a tire! Also, we have five different inserts available for 24mm tires, see our Inserts Page for part numbers. In addition to the new tires and inserts, we have cool new 24mm Type R5 wheels (#3735) to mount these or any 24mm tires!

HPI 24mm tire inserts can be used with any 24mm tire from other manufacturers. 

Racing Slick B15-40 Tires (Very Soft)
These excellent tires are longer-wearing than our Pro Compound Slicks, but provide more grip. They come without inner foams so racer can choose the proper foams for the track they are racing on. We suggest our Rounded Pro Molded Inner Foams in either Soft (#4678) or Hard (#4679) compounds. The rounded shape of the tire keeps the tire IFMAR- and EFRA-legal while the contact patch retains the properties of super-narrow tires (22mm). The rounded tire concentrates the weight of the car on a smaller contact patch for better control and acceleration.

The "B" is the letter code for the compound of the rubber used in the tire. The "15-40" refers to the temperature range in Celsius that the tires should be run in. (Fahrenheit conversion is 60-105 degrees)

Pro Compound Tires (Very Soft)
Our Pro Compound tires are still extremely popular with racers all over the world. The Super Slicks work best on fully prepared (blown off and with traction additive) track surfaces. The X-Pattern Radials or V-Groove Radials work very well on smooth asphalt that is fully prepared (blown off and with traction additive) or semi-prepared (blown off only). Many racers have told us that the X-Pattern tires work great for carpet racers also! The Pro Compound Super Radials work great on unprepared surfaces or neighborhood streets. The tread pattern kicks out dust and small pebbles quite efficiently.

Super Compound Tires (soft)
For parking lot bashers or occasional racers, the Super Compound tires are great. Long tire life and good traction characteristics make this the tire of choice for club racers and folks who don't get out to the race track very often. These are also among the only tires available in our 31mm width!

The Super Compound tires also work great on very high-grip race tracks, preventing traction rolls (or grip rolls, depending on what you call them!).

M-Compound Tires (medium)
Our medium compound "M-Compound" tires are good for hobbyists just starting out, or who are looking for decent tread life on their street or local parking lot! If you want to start racing, however, see our belted tires above.
