Kit builders… we know that you like to build your own cars from scratch, so HPI Racing now has a high performance kit version of the popular Baja 5B 1/5th scale gas powered buggy. The Baja 5B SS comes as an unassembled kit with a complete instruction manual so you can take you time and enjoy the build-up process. And in the tradition of HPI SS kits, it also comes with a huge list of high performance hop-up parts you won’t find on the RTR version.

For scorching power, a larger 26cc engine that pumps out more horsepower and torque than the standard 23cc engine. A new aluminum tuned pipe and aluminum tube header help extract maximum power from the engine. A new clutch launches at a screaming 8,000 RPM for dirt roosting acceleration from a standing start. The combination of the engine, exhaust and clutch make the Baja 5B SS significantly faster than the standard RTR Baja 5B.

To handle the extra power, the stock plastic differential case has been replaced with a tough aluminum case. The new alloy case strengthens the differential and extends maintenance intervals. New all-metal dogbones provide extra drivetrain strength, and heavy-duty beadlocks have been added to the rear wheels to handle the extra torque.

For improved handling, the Baja 5B SS has front and rear sway bars, and the rear shock tower has been modified for increased rear suspension travel. All four shock absorbers have been revised, now with thicker diameter shafts for extra durability. The new VVC/HD shocks also have new valving and o-ring cartridges for improved dampening and smoother operation. The result is the best handling Baja 5B ever.

And, the Baja 5B SS looks great too. A new gunmetal anodized chassis serves as the backbone for the kit, and orange anodized aluminum accent pieces give it a bold look. A clear pre-cut body and pre-cut decals are included so you can add your own custom paint job.

As with most HPI SS kits, we delete the radio system and receiver battery so R/C veterans can add their own favorite equipment. But in the case of the Baja 5B SS we do include a newly developed high output metal geared steering servo, simply because it’s not easy to find a great servo for the Baja 5B.

Of course, all of the great features that have made the Baja 5B a fan favorite are still there… the thunderous 1/5th scale size, the reliability and economy of gasoline powered large scale vehicles, and all of the innovative Baja 5B design touches that make it so much fun to drive.
