This ultra high-performance glow engine is developed specifically for cars, and with a rating of 1 horsepower at 35,000 RPM is quite simply the most powerful small block (.12-size case) nitro engine available! The Nitro Star Pro 12R SC is designed in Italy by engine manufacturer Novarossi, winner of multiple world championships with their .15- and .21-size engines.
The Nitro Star Pro 12R SC is a true ABC engine, and is made in the tradition of Novarossi's .15 and .21 world championship winning engines. A machining process developed from the aerospace industry is used to construct the engines for virtually zero flaws in the metal. The crankcase is vacuum-cast to lessen the probability of defects, such as density voids (spots of low density in the metal which can cause a weak point). The triple ports of the engine are profile cast for perfect alignment with the sleeve, unlike other engines which have the ports machined in after molding.
Resting on special Novarossi-designed ball bearings is a large 11mm diameter crank shaft, which gives the absolute maximum flow of fuel and power with a minimum of flex. The connecting rod uses a unique double bushing design, and is made from super-competition aircraft aluminum alloy for lightweight strength.
The race-bred slide carburetor is an extremely smooth unit that provides smooth throttle control with fast reaction time! The 5.5mm opening allows more air into the engine for massive power. The three adjustment screws allow fine-tuning of low-speed, mid-range and high-speed air/fuel mixtures. This is a top-quality carburetor, designed for serious racers!
To maximize engine cooling, the combustion chamber and purple anodized cooling head are a two-piece design. This will ensure that the Nitro Star Pro 12R SC runs cool and efficient, for low fuel consumption and extreme engine power!
The engine and header mounts of the Nitro Star Pro 12R SC are exactly the same as the other Nitro Star, O.S.and other standard size .12 engines. This means it will easily fit in the Nitro RS4 Racer, Super Nitro RS4 and Nitro RS4!
The Nitro Star Pro 12R SC comes with a sheet of Nitro Star Pro decals, slide carb, purple anodized aluminum head, and full, easy instructions for installation, break-in and tuning. Be the envy of all your Nitro racing buddies! Get ready for running on the extreme edge of the Nitro envelope!
It's best to modulate the idle speed of the engine while you are breaking it in. This means vary the speed, from no throttle to 1/4 or 1/3 throttle. DO NOT pull full throttle when you are breaking in any Nitro engine! Also, make sure you follow the instructions fully, but double check the needle valve settings to ensure you have the carburetor set rich enough. Aim a small fan at the engine if you have one, it will make sure the engine is getting enough cool air over it.
If your engine seems to seize or lock up, it's probably because the engine has overheated. Let it cool down, then you will need to take the cooling head and backplate off the engine, and take out the piston and sleeve. You probably won't be able to release the piston from the sleeve (because both have swollen a tiny bit from the heat), so soak both in a metal or glass container in unused, fresh Nitro fuel. After the piston and sleeve have separated, richen the carb mix just a little and aim a fan at the engine the next time you run it on the stand.
If you mount this in your Nitro RS4 car, you should consider our #A907 Gear Brace to prevent stripping gears or breaking gear shafts. The Gear Brace will keep the two gear shafts on the cars at a constant distance and enhance the performance and durability of your car!
If you accidentally cut your pilot shaft too short, you can take it out with an Allen wrench (you'll need to buy or borrow a piston locking tool) and replace it with a 5 x 25mm Allen set screw from a hardware store.
