Photos and story: Travis Brock February 21st kicked off the opening round of NASCAR in California and as normal HPI Racing was on hand with huge ramps set up and the skills to use them. With the release of HPI’s new Blitz, the focus of driving was split between a mini Short Course track that was used by both the Baja’s and the Blitz’s and some huge mega ramps that the Savages were killing it on. As the day progressed the Trucks moved from a racing mentality to a lets go as big as we can one. The Blitz transformed from a race machine that was hugging corners into a basher that could handle the biggest air and some hard landings. Luis “Sloouiee” Herrera was out in full force running his Baja 5B and was showing the crowd some of the most wicked whips ever seen with a Baja. He was running a almost Stock Baja 5B with 5T front tires and molded foams. The extra weight of the tires up front really allowed him to hang the car out and get it almost. Mid Day the HPI crew had a couple surprise visitor as NASCAR’s own Ryan Newman and Justin Allgaier stopped by to run some Baja’s and try there hand at turning right and hitting some jumps. Both of the guys had some huge smiles stuck on their face the entire time they were driving and would not stop talking about it when they were done. If you make it out to an event that HPI is at keep an eye out for these guys as there’s a good chance that they might be there running with us again
