Hpi/Fatlace Drift@Formula-D, Long Beach, CA

The Formula-D 2010 season got off to an awesome start in Long Beach, CA, over the weekend. With over 50+ entries vying to get into the field, the weekend started early on Thursday. The field of 32 cars that made it into the show contained a number of familiar names as well as some new faces to Formula-D. There we're fierce battles throughout the rounds ... with some disappointed favorites making early exits and ... thrilled new faces making it on to the next round. In the end it came down to a battle of the "Energy Drinks" as the Falken Monster Energy Mustang, with Vaughn Gittin Jr, battling it out with the Red Bull Genesis of Rhys Millen. It was an awesome final battle with the brand new Falken Monster Energy Mustang coming out on top! With Tanner Foust aboard the Rockstar Hankook SCION in 3rd. The Hankook Drift squad's brand new 2010 Camaro made a good showing by making it into the field of 32, Ryuji Miki's Apexi/Hankook FD made it on to the round of 16. 2009 Formula-D Champion Chris Forsberg started off the 2010 season with a solid 10th place finnish aboard the NOS/MAXXIS 350Z and is undoubtedly looking forward to a strong showing in Atlanta!

Hpi showed off the latest and greatest RC Drift gear on both sides of the track over the weekend... The main Hpi booth was located with the fatlace 1of1 Showcase in the car show section, Hpi also shared a booth with fatlace on vendor row. In addition, Hpi presented the NOS/MAXXIS RC Drift Challenge at the NOS/MAXXIS VIP Pit Area. The main Hpi display showed off the latest collaboration with fatlace in the form of super cool fatlace/Hpi racing decal sheets (...featuring the current fatlace logos as well as some OG logos...and the OG of OG TMR zine logos thrown in for good measure).
Watch this space for upcoming fatlace-Hpi racing happenings and gear! Present was also the soon to be released Hpi 2010 Camaro kit and bodyshell as well as a sneak peek of the new Hpi BMW bodyshell ... and one of the first production Hpi BLITZ ESE kits!

Next to the Hpi booth was the fatlace 1of1 Showcase ... with more than 150 show cars of all types and styles representing the whole spectrum of super cool showcars. There was something for everyone from Vintage JDM to Drift Inspired to VIP style and just super clean awesome looking creations! The fatlace "graphics" we're definitely well represented in the field. There was a particularly clean Evo X with an Hpi banner near by it ... hmm who's car could it be... Loved the Vintage JDM of course ... can't get enough of it! ...super clean Soarer with Bronze TEs ... I'm a sucker for Bronze TE37s. Although my personal favorite is the Vintage "white" Hakosuka sporting the fatlace heart decal ; ] ... I'll have to settle for my Forza clone for now ; ]

The Hpi NOS/MAXXIS RC Drift Challenge had participants sign up to drive 3 laps of the set up drift course. 2 of the laps we're judged in order to determine the 5 top scorers of the weekend. The FINAL FIVE would then each run 2 judged laps to determine the winner ... judging theFINAL FIVE would be NOS/MAXXIS driver and Defending 2009 Formula-D Champion Chris Forsberg. By 1pm on Saturday the FINAL FIVE was set and we had a good field of challengers! Chris Forsberg arrived on cue and the battle started ... while some of the drivers rose up to the challenge and impressed Chris ... others cracked under pressure and was eliminated. After the dust settled it was Tyler Larson who won the NOS/MAXXIS RC Drift Challenge presented by Hpi. Tyler was presented with an autographed custom painted NOS/MAXXIS Hpi Sprint 2 Flux kit for his efforts!
