What’s going on everyone, it’s you’re friendly neighborhood Drift Samurai with the post-comp wrap-up of Hyperdrift Norcal’s 1st annual DriftCon RC drift competition. Yo-ro-shi-ku ongegai shimasu! The comp was held at Fast Pace Racing in San Jose, as 27 racers and nearly 30 spectators crammed in to watch Northern California’s (and 1 of Southern California’s) finest battle it out for 1st place.
The “wall of shame” near the back sweeper claimed many drivers that day. Spectators held their breath as cars flew by brushing the wall less than an inch away. Those who were unlucky were met with jeers from Drift Samurai: “ABUUUNAI NAI NAI!!!!”. But for those managing to escape the wall heard a loud roar from the crowd and was given “bokken” salute.
After many fierce battles and close calls, it was down to Nick from Team Tengu (YokomoDriftKing) and Jeremy from 1:10 Sacramento Drift Network (JustSiDEwayZ). As both drivers staged near the start line, the crowd went silent. Despite having chassis issues early in the competition, Nick, was able to remain consistent, while Jeremy applied serious pressure at every clipping point. Both competitors hit scoring zones, but in the end Nick was able to take the win by a slim margin of 2 points.
Final Standings:
1st Place: Nick Pizano
2nd Place: Jeremy K.
3rd Place: Brian Lemi
