Dec 9, 2009, HPI BLITZ NIGHT at West Coast RC Raceway and Hobby Garage

On December 9^th the HPI crew converged on West Coast Raceway for a friendly night of off-road racing with the Blitz.  Upon arriving at WC I was pleasantly surprised to see all the HPI Brass in attendance. I started to get the feeling this was going to be a battle for office bragging rights. HPI employees were all seated at the same table making those last minute changes to their Blitz's, comparing notes on set up, and plan of attack. When racing got underway it became very apparent there were bragging rights at stake as the competition amongst the HPI crew was fierce. Atop the leader board were Thad Garner (R&D Testing Technician), Shawn Ireland (HPI President), and Erik Shauver (HPI Blitz designer). The difference between this race and every other I had attended for 1/10 scale was the atmosphere. Though everyone wanted to win (human nature) the focus was on having a good time, enjoying personal victories through improved set up and driving skill. I think I witnessed every HPI employee in attendance laughing and blowing off some steam from the work day.

From the outside most of us look in on what these guys do, and think what an incredible job it would be to bring Hobby Grade RC cars to market, especially for HPI. This is true, but it is still a job. Each and every one of these guys put their heart and soul into all of their respective positions, and it shows through their products. At the end of the night, not a single part failure was experienced by any of us, not even Travis Brock. My hat is off to HPI, their talent pool is deep, their dedication is second to none, and their products are top notch. Thanks for coming out to play, it was a pleasure racing with all of you!
