The Karl Mackie Memorial Race Against Cancer was established in 2002 in honor of my dad, Karl Mackie who lost his battle with cancer in July 2002. As both my dad and I were avid RC racers, I thought it was fitting to hold an event like this in his honor to help raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society. 2002 I planned a small benefit race. When I say small I mean it. Only 6 drivers attended for a total of 11 entries. This race was held in a church gym that has a rubber floor. Lap counting was done manually we raced on-road and off-road vehicles in an oval race. We raised about $600.00 2003 The race grew a little bit. We had 11 racers attend for a total of 22 entries AMB was kind enough to lend me one of their systems and software. We ran Stock touring, stock micro and stock oval (this is what my dad and I raced together). We had lots of fun, The race was held in the church gym again. Past Cleveland champ Wayne Vince attend race. We raised about $800.00 2004 The race grew a little larger again. We had 17 racers attend for 28 total entries. AMB let me borrow a system again. We ran Stock touring, stock micro, stock 12th scale and stock oval. The race was held in the church gym again. Past Cleveland champ Wayne Vince attend race. We raised about $950.00 2005 The race again grew a little larger. We had 37 racers attend for 56 total entries. AMB let me borrow a system again. We ran Stock touring, stock micro, stock 12th scale and stock oval. The race was held in the church gym again. We raised about $2000.00 2006 The race again grew a lot larger. We had 62 racers attend for 102 total entries. AMB let me borrow a system again. We ran Stock Touring, 19T Touring, Open Micro, Off-road Micro, 19T 12th scale and stock oval. LANXESS donate money so that We could purchase CRC carpet and hold the event in a larger location, Degroot\'s Nurseries. Advanced building material Sarnia donated PVC for barriers at a reduced cost, RONA Cashway donated material to construct the outer barriers and Ranson Industrial donated money to complete the track. Past Cleveland champ Wayne Vince and Jeff Showler attend race. We raised $3000.00 for a total of about $7350.00 2007 This year we saw the attendance drop a little. This is due to the fact that we only ran 4 classes this year instead of 6. We had about 40 racers attend. We ran Stock Touring, Stock 12th Scale, Mini Coopers and Stock Oval. We had a lot of fun again and we raised $2900.00 for a 6 race total of about $10250.00 2008 In 2008 the attendance was back up. We had about 65 racers attend or 101 total entries. We ran Stock Touring, Stock 12th Scale, Mini Coopers, Stock Oval and a pro-10 class called the ORT Challenge. This class only had one legal body, the Protoform ORT body. The bodies were provided by Protoform, painted by myself and provided to each driver registered. We had a lot of fun again and we raised $3600.00 for a 7 race total of about $13850.00.
