Burning up the pavement at the bullring arena at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway on May 23rd, 2009 was the Las Vegas RC Drift Team collaboration of Limited Traction and Vegas Bombers hosted Burn Baby Burn RC Drift Competition. The 1:10 track area was provided by the accommodating people from JustDrift who held their 1:1 clinic/competition a few hundred feet away. With the smell of BBQ, burnt rubber and SPF 30 in the air you knew you were in the right place for some fun.
All the participants arrived around 9am, allowing a lot of practice/demo time on the track before the 1pm competition. Between those two times a drivers meeting was held, a photo shoot was conducted and a BBQ was devoured.
This open drift class competition not only drew in local RC drifters but it also attracted RC drifters from Nor Cal and So Cal which brought our total competitor count to 24. The results came in a California sweep with Brian Lemi (Limited Traction, Nor cal) taking 3rd, Mike Surinsuk (So cal) in 2nd and Marc Marquez (So cal) taking first. Here are the prizes as listed:
1st Place: Hot Bodies Cyclone S Kit with HPI Nissan R32 Skyline GT-R
2nd Place: 1/10 Hauler Bag and HPI Nissan S15 Silvia body
3rd Place: HPI Toyota Levin AE86 body and HPI Stage-D Trueno AE86 Body Kit (Run Free) and HPI Weld JZX100 Toyota Mark II body
Nor Cal vs. So Cal vs. Las Vegas Battle and the winner of this battle was So Cal.
Competition Prizes were provided by HPI Racing.
Although the winners' podium did not have Las Vegas represented, Las Vegas RC drifters still came out winning by hosting a great event. We hope that everyone had fun and will come back, because hey, any excuse to go to Las Vegas is a good excuse, right?
