Dustin Richards @ The Factory Tracks Turkey Race!

Well as much of the RC world gathered to race the Cleveland Indoor Champs, I was home eating Turkey with my family. That does not mean however than my thanksgiving weekend did not involve RC. Those of you who know Al Horne might know him for his years of factory racing, or maybe his nationally known Factory Tracks Midwest series, but this weekend it was for the dialed race he put on at his track: Factory Tracks Midwest Raceway.
 
With Practice Fri, racing Sat, some of the best talent in the country converging on Highland Michigan, and more ROAR National Championships on the track than one could count on both hands, it was sure to be a competitive good time.
 
Due to preparing for the Wisconsin Off-Road Championships that are happening a week later I decided to only run 2wd Mod and get that dialed in. This is exactly what I did and every run right up till the third qualifier I was changing setup and tires till I finally found the hot combo. After qualifying I was sitting 5th on the grid, ready for a dog fight as factory wheels for Losi, Associated, Orion, Kyosho, Academy, and more lined up on the grid for the 2wd Mod A Main
 
In the main some people checked their patience at the door and were ready to “pin it to win it” in the first corner. This prompted utter mayhem allowing Al Horne and Dakota “The Prince” Phend to get out clean and again replay one of their epic battles as they exchanged the lead several times between themselves. I ended going from 5th, to 3rd, to 10th, and eventually capturing the third and final trophy position.
