Drift Nutz and Speedtech R/C Area D: Drift Comp #2

Another sunny day in San Gabriel, CA played host to the second Area: D competition, which was hosted by Team Drift Nutz, and Speedtech RC.  This time around HPI and Speedtech RC brought the prizes, and many local SoCal drifters, and even a few NorCal who made the trip, brought the cars competition, and the good times. 

The competition format was again, the double bracket type with a top 32, that split into two top 16 brackets, one for first round winners, and one for first round losers.  Marc Marquez took the top qualifier and along with Mac Cruz, Jonathan Vong, Ulysses Pascual, and Mike “Shoryuken” Surinsuk received a first round bye. 

Top 32 competition saw a couple of upsets, with #20 Anthony Requena knocking off #13 Ian Fadrigon, and #18 Fred Mackey knocking off #13 Brandon Strickland.  Despite his early upset Ian, went on to win the lower bracket.  In the upper bracket, top qualifier Marc Marquez finished up in the #3 Spot after losing to Tougue Knights teammate Mac Cruz in the Semi-Finals, and beating resident Sandbagger Ritchie Umali of Team 3D in the 3rd Place Battle.  Mac Cruz went on to beat Josh Rozsa of Team 3D, who took 2nd, to become the new Drift Nutz National Champion.
