Team Drift Nutz put on their first official “Area: D” Drift Competition at Speedtech RC. Drift Nutz is hardly a newcomer to the drift scene, competing in RC Driftclub Series since 2007 and holding weekly “Midnight Club” drift sessions and “In-Your-Mouth” mini comps at local parks and DMV parking lots, which sometimes ended up with the po-po showing up. This time with everything official, and support from RC Driftclub, Spektrum, HPI Racing, and Speedtech RC the stage was set for a great event. HPI even provided free T-drift tires for each entry. Many of the area’s top sliders came out for the event, Including Marc Marquez (top qualifier and first overall) and XRC Magazine Staff James Revilla and Dave Palacious (who took first and second in time attack).
The format for this particular event was a top 32 single bracket, with everyone who lost before top 8 dropping into a lower bracket for a chance at smaller prizes. There was also a time attack class, which featured single cars battling to get the fastest lap time, and one winner was declared. Overall the turnout was very good, even HPI’s own Andy Hilman came out and participated in time attack (as an exhibition driver) and doled out T-drifts like he was Santa Claus.
