Baja 5B @ Milestone Ranch MX Park, August 2nd, 2008
Race #4 at the RC Tracks at Milestone MX Park saw 19 Baja 5bs come out to play for a fun day at the track. The buzz in the pits was about new challenger Scott G who had put on a good show in the previous race, taking 2nd in the A Main. TeamphatdadRC drivers we're ready for challenge. We also had HB Arrive and Drive winner Brian Sullivan in attendance to try his hand at Baja racing. A big thanks to Gabe from Gabe Brown Engineering for the cool 1st, 2nd and 3rd place Trophies and supporting the event series!
The competition started off with 2 heats of 10 minute qualifiers to determine the starting order and placings for the Mains. It was a close battle in the qualifiers between Scott G, Brian Sullivan and Rodney Ketcham as to who would take the TQ spot. After the dust had settled it was Scott G who took the TQ honors. The focus then turned to how everyone was going to negotiate the first turn...as there will be 12 Bajas lining up for the A Main.
First off it was the 20 minute B main run. Moto Ishibashi took the top spot, with Brock Patterson in 2nd and Gabe Brown in 3rd. Moto and Brock we're then off to the pits to prep they're cars for the A main. Tension filled the air as the 12 cars lined up for A Main start and dash to the first turn... and they're off...12 Bajas hurtling down the straight...it was an awesome sight! After lap one it was Scott G in 1st with Brian Sullivan, Rick Linn and Andrew Hilman making it through in the top 4 spots... As the race progressed it was a close battle between Scott G and Brian Sullivan, with many other battles raging within the field. 3 time winner Rodney Ketcham unfortunately suffered a mechanical failure on lap 10 and had to call it a day. At the 20 minute mark the track conditions we're getting loose as the track had been getting considerably dustier and dryer by the minute. Everyone's skills we're definitely being put to test. After all the dust had settled it was Scott G taking it by a lap over Brian Sullivan, with Dereck Butterfield in 3rd.
Once again it was an awesome fun day in the sun! Hope to see everyone back in 2 weeks!
