It was a beautiful sunny September Sunday in Rancho Santa Margarita. Temperatures hovered around 75-80 with a cool breeze blowing. Needless to say, it was a perfect day for a car show. It was the 10th Annual Mustang Auto Show hosted by the Saddleback Mustang Association.

Around 60 vehicles were present and entered into one of the 26 classes. Classes ranged from original 64-66 Mustangs all the way up to Ford’s latest Mustang creation, the Shelby GT500, along with everything in between.  There was even an excellent example of the infamous Shelby AC Cobra in attendance. New and older Saleen Mustangs were in abundance along with the new edge 05-07 Mustangs.

The category I entered was the 93-04 Cobra class. There were 2 other Cobra’s entered: A silver 03 Cobra Convertible and an immaculate example of the first SVT Cobra made back in 93. This particular 93 Cobra had 12 miles on the odometer and still had the original window sticker present. My Cobra is an '03 with 16,000 miles. She's a 10th Anniversary edition with some mild modifications including a Bassani x-pipe coupled with matching cat-back exhaust system, K&N cold air intake, LFP intercooler, and a short throw shifter.

Atop the supercharger was a Sprint 2 Drift painted to match the car. Using a #7328 Saleen 190mm body wearing #3770 rims painted gunmetal and wrapped in #4541 V-Groove Pro Compound rubber I was able to closely match the real car. I even replicated the intercooler using the 85613 Body Tuner kit Type A.

Also on display were an RS4 3 Evo+ with a 200mm 66 Mustang body and another Sprint 2 with a 200mm Ford Mustang GT-R body painted with Chrome Illusion paint. Many people took pictures of the R/C cars and kids were drawn to them like magnets. Once the judging was finished I was awarded a 3rd place trophy for my efforts. How could anyone beat an all original 93 Cobra with 12 miles? He had my vote that’s for sure.

It was a lot of fun mingling with fellow Mustang enthusiasts and showing off some of HPI’s fine Mustang bodies. There’s always next year!
