The Proceed kit is the most complex kit that HPI has ever released, so patience and care must be used when assembling this very high-tech car. Be sure to completely read through the instruction book before opening any parts bags. Make notes if you have to, next to the steps that you think may give you trouble. With the right tools and patience, you too will have the most exotic on-road R/C car you will ever own!

Check out Rolf's Homepage on the Proceed, which includes tons of great information on the Proceed, including building tips.

One of the first things you should get when you get your first Nitro kit is a small bottle of Loctite brand thread lock. Use the blue (242) compound thread lock, as it allows you to remove the screw from the hole when you need to. On any Nitro car, ALWAYS use threadlock on any metal-to-metal screws, including: engine mounts, steering pilot shafts, brake cam set screw, clutchbell screw, 2 speed set screw, muffler or header mounts, as well as any aluminum parts you may have installed. This is a critical part of the assembly of any Nitro car, and thread lock should be a standard part of your tool box.

Before running your Nitro car, ALWAYS look over your car to see if there are any loose screws or nuts. Check all the screws and nuts throughout the car to prevent damage to your car.

Use a hobby knife to trim the flashing away from molded parts. This will make sure you have no binding in the suspension, which would make the suspension action erratic and could lead to problems later on!

Make sure you have the correct tools that are called for in the manual. Digital or dial calipers will be very helpful when you have to measure the clearance of the clutch. Do not depend on measuring "by eye"! Also, you will find C-clip pliers extremely useful when assembling and disassembling the clutch.

Pay very close attention to the screw sizes that are called out in the manual. Match the screws up to the drawing on the side of each page to make sure you are using the correct length and type of screw!

On step #30, when you are assembling the shocks, put a light film of shock oil on the #50451 o-ring seal before you screw on the shock cap.

When you put the foam donuts on the wheels, be sure to spread out the foam after you push the wheel through. The foam donut can get compressed and this will create hard spots or not let the tire go all the way across the wheel as it should.

To glue the tires to the wheels, use a flat blade screwdriver as a pry bar and open up a small gap to put the thick CA glue. Then rotate the wheel and move the screwdriver to the next section and apply more glue. This is much easier than pulling the wheel off the wheel by hand!
