The judges for this HPI Challenge
Concours were Issac Ben-Ezra, owner of Hobby Center, David Kouche of HPI
and Frank McKinney of HPI. They took a long time to look at the cars that
were brought up and chose their top three picks, then spent a few more
minutes and chose the winner.
Here are some of
the standouts from the group of Concours challengers:
Finalists are chosen!
We chose several cars to be "finalists",
that we would pick the top three cars from. Here are some pictures of
the first group of finalists.

Darren Lighty
of Patterson, New Jersey (one of our long-distance racers!) went home
with third place in our Concours Challenge. Darren used Parma Faskolor
paints (Ash Gray and Charcoal Metallic) to paint the base coats of
his car, topping off the car with Slixx decals from their NASCAR lineup.
The red wheels are our #3715 3mm offset Mesh Wheels that were painted
Missile Red. |

Hailing from
San Antonio, Ron Meloni was last year's defending Super Nitro RS4
winner, and decided to come out in style this year, with this great-looking
1998 season replica of the Toyota TS020 (they called it the GT-One
in 1999). Ron took over 12 hours to mask off the white areas of the
body, and he even had scale mirrors, windshield wiper, hood antenna
and inner body to complete the scale look. Great job, and a wonderful
example of what good research can accomplish for an older race car
replica! |

Kevin Mitchell
of Dallas took home top honors in the Concours Challenge with this
great-looking Alfa Romeo GTV body on an RS4 Nitro RTR chassis. On
the outside, you could see the clean paint job and outside mirrors,
but if you looked a little closer you could see working headlights
and tail lights, plus a handmade windshield wiper! Looking inside
the car was our #7098 Interior Set with a driver head that turned
on a hidden servo! A coiled air hose provided the ventilation to the
driver and turned with the helmet. Hood pins that you could actually
remove (very very small body clips, basically) topped off the whole
car and made Kevin's car the winner! Congratulations, Kevin! For his
efforts, Kevin went home with an HPI Oval T-shirt and a brand new
RS4 Rally kit. Both Ron and Darren took home new HPI Oval T-shirts
as well in recognition of their efforts. |
