The judges for this HPI Challenge Concours were Bob Hastings, associate editor for R/C Car Action, Steve Baker of HPI and Frank McKinney of HPI. They took a long time to look at the cars that were brought up and chose their top three picks, then spent a few more minutes and chose the winner.

Here are a few pictures of the group of Concours challengers:

Many of the racers showed up with concours-quality cars, so it was hard to choose the three best! Most of the racers from New York race at Bruckner's Hobbies and East Coast Hobbies Some regular racers at R/C Madness drive all the way from Rhode Island!

Top Three!

Here are the top three cars that were chosen:

A Nitro sedan and two Super Nitros made the cut to the top 3

Third Place
Ray Powell from Fairfield, Connecticut, had a wonderful-looking paint job on his Super Nitro that was topped with the Porsche 911 body. Ray used a special (meaning expensive) Dupont Chrome Illusion mixture called "Absolute Purpleen", which looks green, blue or purple, depending on the angle you are looking at. This paint process requires an activator, meaning the paint is only good for about an hour, and uses a tri-coat system. This means a base coat is first applied, then the Chrome Illusion color, then the clear coat. A Parma inner body with a Factory Works driver head finishes off the interior. The rear wing was painstakingly covered with a carbon fiber decal, which took a lot of time because of the complex curves of the wing!

Second Place
In second place was Tyronne Milton with his Toyota GT-One body on a Super Nitro RS4. Tyronne's car featured a two-tone Pactra True Blue Pearl and Candy Purple paint job, which followed the lines of the body beautifully. Both colors were backed with a silver undercoat to make the metallic colors "pop"  in the sunlight. Mesh was used for cooling and vent holes, and was held on with Shoe Goo (a type of very strong rubber-based glue). The mesh worked perfectly with the exhaust! Tyronne lives in Brooklyn, New York and races at East Coast Hobbies and Bruckner Hobbies. He used Wolfpack and Powerline aluminum parts that were purple and blue to match the colors on the body! A PC/RC fuel mixture analyzer helped control the engine on his Super Nitro, his favorite class to race in.

The Winner!
Ruben Williams with his Nitro RS4 sedan was this race's Concours Challenge Winner! Ruben used the Subaru Impreza body to work his magic, making a custom mix of three separate colors to fade and complement each other. Roll bars and a fire extinguisher inside the body went well with the windshield wiper and external mirrors on the outside! A styrene plastic roof rack had a neat finger bike mounted on it! The blue along the bottom of the car is Pactra True Blue Pearl mixed with Candy Purple and Outlaw Black. The awesome orange at the rear of the car is Candy Red and Daytona Yellow, and the yellow at the front of the car is Bright Yellow, Indy Silver and Metallic Burgundy. Many of the parts on the car came from a craft store. Unfortunately Ruben didn't have time to put on the scale WRC-style rally snorkel! Ruben was our racer who came in second for the "longest distance traveled" - he came all the way from Springdale, Maryland!
