The qualifying heat races started at around
11 AM on Sunday, March 12. The text below describing Mains races was provided
by Dennis Racine of rcracing.com,
and is much appreciated! Dennis was on hand both days to talk to the racers
and track crew, plus he took a bunch of pictures of the racing action.
Again, check out www.rcracing.com
for tons of pictures from the weekend!
We'll
start the Mains results with the first mains to be run. These races generally
consisted of our newest racers, although there were some folks who had
handling or radio problems throughout the weekend who were forced to race
in the lower mains.

 The
first of the A Mains was the Electric race, and like all the other A Mains,
would prove to be exciting, even though Michael Cometti checked out with
a early lead and never looked back, the fight for second and third positions
were fierce! Gavin Salmon, Michael Li, Charlie Barnes, John Chin all had
shots at it, swapping positions what seemed like almost every lap! I the
end Michael Cometti finished 7 seconds in front of second place Michael
Li and Gavin Salmon.

The next of the A Mains was the Nitro Open
Class. This was by far the biggest class of the weekend, hence it was
the most competitive. Steve Adams was your pole sitter, TQ'd by almost
a lap and was the local favorite to win the event, being a die-hard HPI
driver.
 As
the race started Steve got off to an early lead, but hot on his heals
was Cameron Wagner, who took over the lead at the end of the first lap.
Steve wasn't done yet, and kept the pressure on Cameron and after a few
laps the two of them tangled while lapping some slower cars, and Cam got
the short end of the stick and ended up upside down awaiting a friend
turn marshal to flip him over. Cam managed to get back going in the fourth
position. Mean while Adams tried to stretch out a lead on Simon Kau and
Andrew Lam, and was doing a great job of it until a mechanical failure
put him into the pits on lap 29, his race was done.
 Meanwhile
Simon Kau, Cameron Wagner and Andrew Lam battled it out. There was great
excitement as Simon, the leader, got nosed into a board with some lap
traffic, and it looked like Andrew would get the pass, only to run into
a problem himself and need to get marshalled as well! Oh the humanity!
Both cars get some help and they were about ready to enter the straight
away almost side by side, when Andrew took the 'too tight' line, as we
all know too well, and ended up getting spun on the board, which also
allowed Cameron to get back by for second. RC Racing at it's finest! It
would finish Simon Kau, Cameron, and Andrew. A+ Guys!

 Next
up were the Super Nitro's. We expected to see more of these cars out there,
with the recent surge in the Super 10 class and the addition of the Super
10 class to the RCCAR line up, but nonetheless we had 6 cars set to run,
with Richard McClosky starting on the pole. The start of the race was
a rough one, and sent Richard packing, all the way to the back of the
pack, forcing him to work his way back up front.
 Meanwhile,
Simon Kau looked like he was going to check out, when his car suddenly
developed some serious handling problems, which allowed Henry to get by
for the lead. At this point Henry would never look back. Richard came
close to catching him, but due to problems with his body and it tucking
in on the right front wheel, took away any chance of catching Henry. It
would finish with Henry Pun, Richard, Wayne and Simon in first, second,
third and fourth.

 The
final A Main race of the day would be the Box Stock Nitro class. It was
really wild watching these guys blast down the straight without a two
speed tranny! Once again Richard McClosky would start on the pole, and
this time got away clean on the start and proceeded to stretch out a comfortable
lead on the rest of the pack, showing great patience and judgment in traffic.
But just when everyone thought he had it made, luck (bad luck that is)
would stick its head in and toss his car around. Richard tangled with
some lapped traffic, allowing Simon Kau to make a run at him. But as fate
would have it, Simon ran into some bad luck himself too, making things
even out. All in all a very close race between Richard and Simon. Richard
would finish on top this time, with Simon only 5 seconds behind him!
