Concours Winner!

Main Page | Main Concours Page | Qualifying | Main Events | Thanks!

We'll just let the pictures speak for themselves!

Pictures of the outside of the winning Concours car - be prepared to say "is this car real or what?"
Disk brakes with calipers! The disks actually rotated with the wheels while the brake calipers stayed in place! Rollbars, driver figure, did we mention the functional wiper? The wiper actually had a rubber band that snapped it back into place if you lifted it!
Not only did this car have lights, it had light fixtures that were made to fit the Altezza body and coated with chrome Monokote (an r/c aircraft covering) The rear tail lights received the same treatment as the front lights - three-dimensional light enclosures, but with the added detail of red reflectors! Jack ball!
The yellow strip is a full-size touring car detail: when the car comes in during the required pit stop, the yellow strip is removed so the officials can see the car has pitted. Netting for the driver, attached to the rollbars on the inner body. The netting was real cloth, too! Custom-molded vented brake disks and calipers! Can you doubt the qualifications of this car as the winner now? There wasn't enough time to install the braided brake lines...
A shot of the inner body and its workings...
Our Z3 inner body was modified to fit the longer interior of the Altezza body, and tubing was cut and bent to fit. A spy shot of the mechanicals that made the lights and wiper blade work - we promised that this would be all that we showed!
And after the weekend's racing, this is what the body looked like!
According to the rules of our HPI Challenge Concours, the winning body had to be run in at least one heat - this body was driven in every practice and race run!

Who is the racer who spent all this time working on his car? Our own RallySteve (Steve Phemister) from the R/C Forum! He'd flown down with Rally Forum Moderator DKOV (Scott Kovalik), who got in the top three with his Yokohama BMW body, and neither car was completely finished when they were entered in the HPI Challenge Concours.

The man and his legendary Toyota Altezza body!

For his hard work and all the time spent on the car, Steve won a new Pro 2 kit and a huge HPI Challenge Concours winning trophy! Good job, Steve!

Honorable mentions must also go to the finalists who made our Top Three - Scott Kovalik (DKOV from our R/C Forum) and another racer who had a very nice Castrol NSX body. The NSX was unavailable for additional pictures, but here are some pictures of Scott's Yokohama BMW:
Working headlights, tow hook, very detailed inner body and more! A clean paint job, good decal work, exhaust pipe, and custom-made antennas!
