Saturday
– Official Qualifying After
a late session in the local night-club and an early start Saturday, there
were several weary looking racers (and race organisers!!!) at 7am at the
track for drivers briefing, booking in before finally getting down to
a bit of racing.
There
were four rounds of qualifying on Saturday.
All drivers posting times but the fastest guy all day was Darren
Styles in the most popular Class, the Pro Class.
Darren set a flying time of 25 Laps in 5:11.80 Minutes, a time
no one could beat for the rest of the weekend and new track record to
boot! Not bad considering
we were using “Handout Equipment” and controlled gearing.
The Pro Class guys really were on the pace!!! While
all this was going on, I decided it was time to look around, meet some
guys and have a general nosy… It
was nice to see several members of staff from HPI, Team Orion and LRP
were on hand to help with any problems and Oscar Jansen on hand to skim
and professionally tune your motor while you wait – best of all, it was
free of charge – cheers OJ.
Jurg Zund was on hand with his shop full of HPI parts, and Here’s
Team Orion's pit table for Oscar Jansen, helping out the racers! The

qualifying finished we just about had enough time to get back to the hotels
to get washed before we were
whisked away and out for the second evening running.
Jurg Zund (the track organiser) had arranged a great night out
on a large cruiser boat that sailed out into the Lake Konstanz, which
is surrounded by Germany, Austria and Swizterland, for a evening drinking,
eating and socialising – one of the best parts of any trip racing abroad.
A
couple of speeches by Greg Hill, Jurg Zund and a special mention of thanks
from the President of HPI, Tatsuro Watanabe finished the night off in
style, a little tipsy, but ready for tomorrows finals!!! Continue to: |
