HPI Challenge Concours

Around noon, the track was closed to all practice as the concours competition was announced. Racers lined up their cars three across to be judged by Kent and Frank. With over 90 cars to look at, it took several minutes to narrow it down to even a few cars! Luckily plenty, of racers wanted to take pictures of the impressive lineup, and that gave Kent enough time to make a final decision.

While several cars had impressive paint jobs, the attention to detail on a couple of cars caught the eyes of Frank and Kent. The winning car was a Nitro RS4 Racer with a ’98 Honda Accord body mounted on it, owned and raced by Jerry Fajardo of Harlingen, Texas! See the pictures below to get an idea of the work Jerry put into the car. You can see the excellent paint job with nicely contrasting color scheme, plus the chrome wheels, scale disk brakes and calipers, chrome exhaust tube (non-functional, although the car is nitro-powered), and scale Texas vehicle inspection stickers! What really got the attention of everyone, however, was the functioning "burglar alarm" that sounded a series of beeps whenever the car was touched! Even other racers who had cars in the concours agreed that this car was very impressive, and the detail was unmatched by any other car at the race.

For his efforts an impressive car body, Jerry won a huge HPI Challenge cup trophy, and our electric RS4 Mini kit with our Rover Mini Cooper body! Congratulations, Jerry! He even raced the body that he won with, which is about as impressive as looking at the body!
