But first, The Big Raffle!

Hobby Shack races always have a big raffle before the Main Events, and we didn't want to disappoint any of the racers that hoped to win some great prizes! HPI provided a bunch of hats and fuel bottles, while American Honda gave out apparel catalogs with $30 gift certificates, and Yokohama Tire raffled off several Yokohama AVS polo shirts, hats, jackets and another set of performance tires for the lucky winner!
The winner of the tire raffle was XXXXX, luckily he's got a couple of sports cars (a Ford Mustang is one of them), and he was given a certificate for his choice of Yokohama performance tires to fit any size wheel, up to 17 inches! Congratulations, XXXXXX!

Now this was an exciting race! Marc Pfenninger came all the way with his stock RS4 Mini and put on some great demonstrations of smooth, clean driving! Second qualifier Frank Killam was kicked around a bit but caught up and battled for most of the race with Torrance DeGuzman. On the last stretch, while Marc caught up to lap them both, Torrance and Frank tangled about 10 feet before the finish line! Frank was able to recover first and got second, with Torrance securing third! What a great race for the dozens of spectators around the track!

Thanks to Doogie from R/C Car for this great picture! This race was a real nail-biter for both Bill Martinez and Thad Garner! Thad was in the TQ spot, but ended up in 8th or 9th place after the first corner and had to work his way back through the field. Bill opened up a great lead with Shawn Ireland chasing him down, but Thad was catching up!

Thanks to Doogie from R/C Car for this great picture!Thad finally caught up to Bill and followed him for about three laps, waiting for a mistake or a convenient crash with a backmarker, and when he got his chance, he took it! The lead actually went back and forth a couple of times, but at the end it was Thad Garner taking the win, capitalizing on unfortunate wrecks with lapped traffic by Bill. This was another great crowd pleaser! Lots of action for the spectators around the track!

Nitro RS4 Open A Main
Many local racers that are common sights at area parking lot tracks were in the Nitro RS4 Open A Main, and we were happy to see Alex Fernihough holding his own against the fastest drivers in Southern California! Unfortunately he had a few problems during the race and wasn't able to finish the European sweep that Marc and Peter started. Chris Young, our Pepsi drink provider, came out on top in the end, with Luis Wang just a couple of laps down after 10 minutes. The biggest surprise of this race was Daniel Trnka with his nearly stock RTR Nitro RS4 in 3rd place! All he changed was the shock springs, and he showed that the RTR really does stand for "Ready To Run"!

Super Nitro RS4 A Main
Thanks to George Gonzalez from R/C Car Action for this great picture!Orlando Sherman put on a great show for the spectators with his driving in the tight Hobby Shack track. The large cars and tight racing sections combined for some huge crashes! Many loud shouts came up from the crowed during the Super Nitro races, and all the racers walked away with a Super-sized enthusiasm for more big-scale racing at area parking lot tracks! At the end of ten minutes, Orlando walked away with the win, with 3 laps over 2nd place Paul Gallardo and 3rd place Frank McKinney, who were only seconds apart at the finish.

With the efficiency of the Hobby Shack race directors, we were able to wrap up the racing earlier than expected in time to get the plaques, trophies and kits passed out while there was still daylight (by 5 PM)!
